Dorothy Ann Knowles, 101, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville.

She was born November 24, 1909 in Evansville the daughter, of William C. and Marie (Wack) Atkins.

Dorothy graduated from Bosse High School in 1926. She worked for Bell Telephone Company in Evansville, First National Bank of Owensville, and Dave Higginbotham and Son Grain Elevator in Johnson.

She married Alvin L. Knowles on September 3, 1937. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Mt. Carmel, IL. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star March 7, 1942 and held several offices. Dorothy was a member of the Golden Fleece Chapter 176 Order of Eastern Star, ISIS Temple Daughters of the Nile. She loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs, and the Indiana Club.

Survivors include her sons, William F. (Patty) Knowles, James A. (Nan) Knowles and David (Cricket) Knowles; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Erin, Briana, Katie and Randy; 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin in 1956; daughter, Carolyn; sisters, Carolyn, Bessie and Millicent; brother, Louis.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 12, 2011 at Antioch Cemetery with Father Brant Hazlett officiating.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Holders Funeral Home. Memorial services will be conducted by Golden Fleece chapter 176 of Eastern Star at 6 p.m.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dorothy's caregivers at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville.
