Laura Madeline (Stinchfield) Gehlhausen, age 97, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 8 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center.

Laura was born April 25, 1910, in Evansville, Indiana, to Clinton and Marie (Angel) Stinchfield. She worked at Servel, was employed as an independent market researcher, and later was a homemaker.

Laura is a descendant of the Angel family that farmed the land that is now the historical Angel Mounds. She was proud to be a member of the first graduating class of Evansville's Benjamin Bosse High School in 1928.

The care provided by the nursing staff and sitters of the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) was greatly valued and appreciated by the family during Laura's illness.

She is survived by second cousins, Pamela Zoë Anderson of Sarasota, Fla., Stanton "Smokey" McGill Jr. of Little Rock, Ark., and Betty Ann Hiltenbrand of Pembroke, Mass..; nieces and nephews, Patricia Ann Toone of Evansville, Ind., Carolyn S. Wooten of East Bernstadt, Ky., JoRae Young of Chandler, Ind., Sara McCool of Chandler, Ind., John Gehlhausen of Sidney, Ohio, and Michael Gehlhausen of Cape Coral, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, Raymond L. Gehlhausen in 1989; a cousin, Stanton McGill and a life-long friend, Eugene Wagner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, with Father Ted Tempel, a dear family friend, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.

A Gehlhausen generation has passed. We remember fondly those times on the farm and Angel Mounds.
