Cleo Margaret (Wathen) Zirkelbach


Cleo Margaret (Wathen) Zirkelbach, 95, of Evansville passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007, at St Mary's Hospital.

Cleo was the last member of the Joseph W. and Bena (Vogt) Wathen family of six children. These were pioneer farm families of Knight Township. She was a longtime member of St. Benedict Cathedral. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1929, then from Lockyear Business College.

Cleo worked in the Employment Office of Republic Aviation during World War II, and in later years at the Little Sisters of the Poor as receptionist and secretary, retiring in 1986. Then, she was on the staff of the Maturity Journal for two years. Writing poetry was her hobby, and she also enjoyed making greeting cards on her computer for family and friends and especially for the Veterans for each major holiday.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Jeryl H. and Gail of Peoria, Ariz., John C. and Lynne of Gainesville, Fla., Thomas J. and Ann and J. Eric and Cheryl, and one daughter, Donna Woehler and her husband, Bill, all of Evansville; sixteen grandchildren and five grandchildren-in-law, Chris Zirkelbach and wife, Beth, Michael Zirkelbach and wife, Caroline, Jay Zirkelbach and wife, Linda, Lucinda Lambros and husband, Ralph, Brian and wife, Angie, Andrew, Kevin and Megan Zirkelbach, Adam Zirkelbach and wife, Chanda, Erika and husband, Mike Katz, Matt and Christina Zirkelbach, Erin, Ben Sarah and Kaitlyn Woehler; 11 great-grandchildren; five nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son and her husband of more than 67 years, Donald H., who died in 1997.

Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Browning Funeral Home, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral with Father Gregory Chamberlin, OSB, and Monsignor Kenneth Knapp officiating. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
