Virginia Mae (Webb) Smith, 96, died July 13, 2011, as the result of a stroke.

She was born in Evansville, Indiana on November 1st, 1914, the only daughter of Oscar and Helen Webb. Raised in Evansville, she graduated third in her class from Bosse High School [1932?] and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was in her second year at Evansville College when she met and married her husband of 62 years, Alfred Smith.

Job changes took Virginia and family to Richmond, Ind., in 1951, and to Denver in 1956, where she and her husband, Al, lived for 31 years before moving to Logan, Utah, in 1987.

After her children were in school, Virginia worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Untied Electrical Workers Union, for several automobile dealerships, and at Rocket Components in Denver. Her employers highly valued her skills and her strong work ethic. She retired in 1980 to enjoy more time camping and fishing in the Colorado mountains with her husband and granddaughters. She loved living in Denver and became a fervent supporter of the Denver Broncos. Virginia was an avid reader, movie fan and bridge player. Most of her TV watching (aside from Bronco games) was on PBS. She was a devotee of "Masterpiece Theatre," "Mystery" and the British comedies. During her last 20 years in Logan, she played bridge at the Senior Citizens' Center two to three times a week.

Virginia was a conscientious citizen and resident. She took immaculate care of her home and yard. She never missed voting in scheduled elections - national, state and municipal. A loving and devoted parent, she never missed the birthdays of any of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren.

As the primary caregiver to her aging mother and her ailing husband and daughter, she spent many hours providing for their needs and assuring their comfort. After her husband's death in 1996, Virginia continued to live independently in her home and drove until her 96th birthday.

Virginia is survived by her two sons, Jack (Paulette) and Al (Lee); granddaughters, Kendall (Doug), Wynne, Jennifer (Steven), Debi (Fritz), Angela (Monte) and Sarah (Eric); and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John; her husband, Al; her daughter, Bonnie; and her granddaughter, Robin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 85 E. 100 North, Logan, Utah. All friends and family are invited.
