Lloyd Jacob Paul


Lloyd Jacob Paul, 89, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006, at Select Specialty Unit in Deaconess Hospital.

He would have been 90 years old on October 8. Lloyd was born in Warrick County on Oct. 8, 1916, and spent some of his early years helping to farm the area that is now Angel Mounds State Park. He was a descendant of the Angel family that first settled the mounds area. He was a 1934 graduate of Bosse High School and also took some classes at ISUE.

Lloyd married Neva June Cleveland on Aug. 17, 1940. He was soon drafted into the Navy in Oct. 1943, where he trained as a corpsman and a lab technician at the Great Lakes Naval Station. Towards the end of WWII, Lloyd was transported overseas to join the fleet hospital No.116 in Okinawa. He was discharged from the Navy in Dec. 1945, and was hired by Mead Johnson to become one of the first lab technicians. Lloyd soon became an associate scientist in the Microbiology Laboratory, where he worked for more than 45 years. He was a loyal employee. He enjoyed playing on the Mead Johnson baseball team.

Lloyd was a life-long active member of the Howell Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees and especially helped for many years at their Fall Festival booth. He was also active at the Tri-State Food Bank. Lloyd enjoyed woodworking, reading, and gardening. He was a life-time member of VFW Post No. 1114.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Neva June (Cleveland) Paul [died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at age 84], and his sisters, Leona Francis (Paul) Shafer [Monday, August 21, 2006, at age 85; graduated Bosse High 1938 and Deaconess School of Nursing in 1942] and Margaret L (Paul) Graves [died Monday, January 20, 2003, age 75].

Lloyd is survived by his son, Don Paul and wife, Mary Ann of Grovetown, Ga.; daughter, Beverly Hill and husband, Marvin, of Evansville; son, Rick Paul and wife, Beth, of Newburgh; grandchildren, Leesa Young and husband, Cy, of Evansville, Kevin Moesner and wife, Rebekah, of Chandler, Lora Brown and husband, Jason, of Evansville, Callie Paul of Newburgh, Ashley Paul of Newburgh; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Paul and wife, Jean; and sister, Donna Waymire and husband, Ron.

The family would especially like to thank Drs. Hatler, Sloan and Fox for medical care given to Lloyd the past number of years. They would also like to thank Carla Jacobs of Visiting Nurse Plus and Josie Johnson and loving neighbors for their special care that they gave dad which enabled him to be able to stay in his home the past three years.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Dr. Ora Johnson, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may visit today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander North Chapel.
