Robert R. Baumgartner

Robert R. Baumgartner, 85, of Newburgh , died Thursday, November 18, 2004 , at his home.

He was a graduate of Bosse High School , class of 1937.  He excelled in football and attained "all-state" status while attending the University of Evansville .  After graduation, he joined the Navy in 1941 and saw action in many major sea campaigns in the South Pacific Theater. Serving on the USS Braxton, his ship was the first transport ship to enter Tokyo Bay on August 30, 1945.He worked for Flex-o-lators until his retirement.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John "J.D." and William H. "Bill" Baumgartner. His wife of 23 years, Delores, died in 1996. He is survived by a nephew, Robert Baumgartner and his wife Carolyn, and a niece, Mary Baumgartner, all of Kansas City .

"Uncle Bob" will be missed for his love, wisdom and generosity to his family and friends. He always had a good joke to share, and we will fondly remember the many visits to his beloved Kentucky Lake home.

God has now restored your vision so you may see Heaven in all its glory.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2004 , at Park Lawn Mausoleum-Georgian Chapel, with entombment in Park Lawn Mausoleum.  There will be no visitation at Alexander East Chapel.
