William "Bill" Henry Cherry
   

William "Bill" Henry Cherry, 92, of Evansville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2011. He was born January 22, 1919, in Evansville, to Cecil and Vera Cherry.

Bill was a graduate of Bosse High School. He was a World War II veteran and five year member of the 101st Airborne Division Glider Infantry, participating in the Battle of Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked at Servel and Arkla Air Conditioning. Bill was a long-time member of First Baptist Church. He enjoyed all sports, especially hunting and fishing. His gentle, loving spirit was appreciated by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janie; daughters, Susan (Larry) Woods of Newburgh and Jayne Cherry Hayden of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, TeAnna, Cara, Mandy, Lauren and Russ; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. George Huffsmith, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

It has been a blessing to be a neighbor of Bill's this past year. I loved to watch Jane and Bill together. I will miss his sweet smile and sense of humor. God bless all of the family.
