William Robert Baugh, 90, of Evansville, passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at Newburgh Health Care. William was born in Evansville on January 9, 1921, the younger of two children born to Clyde T. and Willie G. (Thurman) Baugh. William attended Bosse High School for 12 years for grade school and high school, graduating in 1938. After high school, he attended Purdue University, Evansville College (U of E), and then graduated from Indiana University in 1942 with a B.S. Degree in Advanced Finance. During WWII, he spent part of his 3 1/2 years in the South Pacific and Japan. He also served as Captain of the National Guard for 7 years. William began his 39 year career with Evansville Federal Savings & Loan Assn. (later, United Fidelity) in 1946 as a teller. He served in various capacities including Pres. and board member of Indiana Savings & Loan League. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, retiring as Pres. and Chairman of the Board of United Fidelity Bank. With much pride, William was a member of the Board of Directors, Treasurer and Pres. of the Rotary Club, and board member and Secretary of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was on the Board of Directors Finance Committee at Welborn Hospital from 1976 until the hospital closed. He had memberships with the Kennel Club and had been Tres. and Pres. of Rolling Hills C.C. He was a member of Reed Lodge, Commander of the LaValette Commandery # 15 Knights Templar, and Hadi Shrine Temple. He was a 68 year member of the Methodist Temple and active in the church. William was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Ann Baugh Alexander. William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris (Webb) Baugh; four children, Diane Pape (Keith) and their children, Jonathan W. Pape and Laura D. Pape, all from the Cinncinati area, Roger Baugh (Kim) and their children, John D. Baugh and Russell W. Baugh, all from Evansville, Barbara B. Schultheis (Ed) and their children, Emily G. Schultheis and Christopher D. Schultheis, all from Evansville, and Thomas R. Baugh from Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may visit Friday, December 2, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel. Private services for immediate family only will be held on Saturday with Rev. Steve Beutler officiating. The Baugh family extends a heartfelt thanks to all the staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Newburgh Health Care.
