Natalie Sandra “Cissy” (Church) (Wastjer) Staub

Cissy Staub, age 89, left this world to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Golden Living Center-Woodlands in Newburgh. Cissy was born on August 23rd, 1920, in Princeton, IN.

Cissy's family moved to Evansville where she graduated from Bosse High School in 1938. She attended Lockyear Business College and worked at Republic Aviation and International Harvester before starting a career at the Evansville Courier where she worked her way to Society Editor. Cissy covered women fashion shows in New York and Los Angeles. During her career, she met many celebrities such as Debbie Reynolds, Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Cher, John Wayne, and danced with Fred Astaire.

In 1946, Cissy met and married Thomas Wastjer who, through 31 years of marriage, was blessed with many friends. Later, she married Ken Staub, a retired fireman. Cissy loved people and had many friends which contributed to her generous personality and values.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Virginia Church; nephews, C.A. Smith, James Church, and David Church; nieces, Sherry Myers, Shannon Badger, Robin Church, and Lori Corn; stepsons, Brett and Steve Staub; nieces, Carolyn Null and Diane Wastjer; nephew, David Wastjer; and many great nieces and nephews. She was a great aunt!

Cissy was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Lola Mae Church; sister, Frances Harl; brothers, James and Carl Church, Jr; and husbands, Thomas Wastjer and Ken Staub.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, Evansville, and continue from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, February 8th, at Ziemer East Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Locust Hill Mausoleum.

Aunt Cissy gave me many happy memories as a child and will be missed by many. My condolences to her entire family.

Cissy was my mother's cousin. My mother and aunt remembered her as young children. Unfortunately, I never did meet her. I know your loss is great. May God be with you.

She wrote my engagement announcement as well as the write-up of my marriage to Jim Fox. As well, she was always fun to be with. I know you will miss her very much. It was a treasure to have
