Charles E. Emmerson, 89, of Evansville passed away at 9:40 pm, Friday, April 29, 2011 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Charles was born October 9, 1921 in Evansville, the son of Verl Otis and Hazel Marie Emmerson. He was a 1939 graduate of Bosse High School, where he also attended grade school. He was a member of McCutchanville Community United Methodist Church and a former member of St. James East United Methodist Church. Charles was very active in both churches where he held many leadership roles. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving for 4 years during WWII in Germany, France and Italy. Charles was a graduate of Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis and was a part owner of Robert Greek Mortuary where he worked for 20 years. He then retired from IDS after 20 years of service. Charles was a member of Daylight Masonic Lodge #752 and a 65 year member of the Hadi Shrine. Music was a tremendous part of his life. Charles played the trumpet with the Hadi Temple Brass Band and was a member of the Temple Aires Band for many years. He also played with the Bell Choir while attending St. James Church and organized and played the trumpet with the Holy Honkers Band which performed monthly during worship services. Charles loved fishing, target shooting and spending time with his family. He enjoyed walking the mall daily with friends. Charles was a devoted colleague and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family, his church family and his many friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna Mae Emmerson of Evansville, son, James Emmerson and wife Nancy of Ft. Wayne, IN, daughter, Deborah Barth and husband George of Evansville, grandchildren, Matthew Emmerson (Jodi), Jackie Goldsmith (Alan), Megan Bloede (Neil) and Angie Ashbrook (Cameron) and 10 great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Thomas Waits, the entire staff on the 6th Floor of Deaconess Gateway Hospital and the caregivers at VNA Charlier Hospice Care Center for their care and compassion. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Monday, May 2, 2011 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Darin Hendrey and Reverend Jarmon Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 pm until 7 pm, Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel. The Hadi Temple Brass Band will conduct a Walk Through at 6:15 pm and the Daylight Masonic Lodge #752 will conduct a Memorial Service at 6:30 pm. Friends may also call from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm, Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to McCutchanville Community United Methodist Church, 9505 Petersburg Rd., Evansville, IN 47725 or Hadi Temple Brass Band, 6 Walnut St., Evansville, IN 47708.
