Jim Myers


Retired Bosse High School basketball coach Jim Myers and his wife, Ruth, both died of smoke inhalation in a fire at their home at Friday, January 18, 2002.  They were both 80.

Jim was an outstanding athlete while attending Bosse in the 1930’s.  He was a four-year starter on the school basketball team.  He led the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounds for three seasons and helped spark the team to the semifinal round of the 1939 state tournament. He was the Gimbel Award winner in 1939.  Jim also lettered once in football and four time in track.

After graduating from Bosse in 1939 he attended George Washington University in Washington, DC where he was a 3-yr letter-winner and two-year starter.  He also helped George Washington University win the Southern Conference championship as a senior.

Jim served as an assistant coach at Central High School before getting the head-coaching job at Bosse at the start of the 1961-62 basketball season.  Stressing the importance of teamwork he led the Bulldogs to a winning season and the 1962 state championship.  In 1975 he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jim and Ruth Myers are buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Evansville, IN.
