Paul "Jack" Byers, 81, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Deaconess Hospital.
He was born August 6, 1926, in Tennyson, Indiana. Jack was a 1941 graduate of Bosse High School. After serving in the United States Army during WWII, he returned home and began his lifelong career as a Thoroughbred Horse Trainer. Jack's passion, love and devotion throughout his lifetime was his family and the horses he trained. Jack was a member of the VFW Post 1114.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Barkley and her husband, Jeff, of Evansville and Cheryl Wells and her husband, Ron, of Columbus, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Eva Baugh and her husband, Hershel, of Evansville; granddaughter, Amanda Ward and her husband, Mike; grandson, Jason Barkley; great-granddaughter, Sarah Ward; and one on the way.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marcella, sister, Betty Geier, and brother, Raymond Byers.
Graveside services are planned for 9 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2008, at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery, 2200 Mesker Park Dr., with Rev. Steve Clayton officiating. The Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave, Evansville, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans, DAV Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
