Ethel M. (VonHarten) Dougan, 86, of Newburgh, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at her residence. Ethel was born February 12, 1923, in Evansville to Charles A. and Effie Alice (Williams) Von Harten. She graduated in 1941 from Benjamin Bosse High School. Ethel worked at Servel during the war, until she married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Dougan, on December 5, 1942. She was a long time member of Gateway Baptist Church in Newburgh, where she was very active in numerous committees, events and activities, including ARTS. Ethel was active in the Homemakers Extension. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Earley of Newburgh and Georgia A. Ferguson and her husband, Lawrence of Columbia, Mo.; two sons, Charles E. Dougan Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Florissant, Mo., and Frederick Dougan of Evansville; a sister, Virginia Whitehead of Evansville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles on December 2, 2002, two brothers Charles Von Harten, Jr. and Edward Von Harten, and a sister, Betty DeVillez. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Gateway Baptist Church, 7564 W. SR 66, Newburgh with Pastor Glenn Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and from 9 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at the church. She was such a good lady and was so faithful at church. She will be sorely missed by so many of us. Since I live in Texas now, I couldn't drop in during her illness. Wish I could have.
