Helen (Hierstein) Johnson, of Evansville, was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Bethel Manor in Evansville.
Helen was born in Evansville on May 30, 1923. She was a 1942 graduate of Bosse High School and participated as second chair in the All-City Orchestra. Helen married William Johnson in 1944. She was a graduate of Lockyear Business College and worked as a secretary at various places including Mesker Steel and Old North Methodist Church. Helen was an avid seamstress. She worked in alterations and made dancing costumes and bridesmaid and wedding dresses for her daughters' weddings. She also enjoyed dancing, travel and family activities.
Helen is survived by her husband of 62 years, William; daughters, Sue Leonard of Chicago, Illinois, Amy Cassada of Evansville, and Sara Becker of Newburgh; grandchildren, Gina Brack, Cheyanna Becker, Brian Cassada and Justin Cassada; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a nephew, Gammon Payne; nieces, Melinda (Georges) Gilbert and Diannah (Georges) Pennington.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Maude (Clark) Hierstein; sisters, Louise Hierstein Shaw, Vera Hierstein Payne and Doris Hierstein Georges.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 First Avenue. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
