Myrtle Elizabeth (Hines) Winders died August 13, 2009, in Evansville, Indiana. A native of Evansville, she was born December 3, 1923, to the late Raymond C. and Myrtle V. (Dare) Hines. After graduating from Benjamin Bosse High School in 1942 she began working at the Evansville Shipyard, where she met the love of her life, Riley L. Winders. After the war, Myrtle worked as a documentation editor at Mead Johnson. She and Riley married on April 28, 1951. Prior to the birth of her first child, she retired from Mead Johnson and thereafter devoted herself to homemaking, raising four children and caring for her elderly mother-in-law, mother, and stepfather. Myrtle loved birds, was an enthusiastic fan of Lawrence Welk, and loved finding bargains at rummage sales. She was a member of West Side Christian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution-Captain Henry Vanderburgh Chapter. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Marie Hines; brother, Raymond W. Hines; sister, Vivian Guerin; stepfather, Hiram C. (Mike) Reagan; and son-in-law, Thomas F. Kaiser. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Riley L. Winders, Sr.; daughters, E. Ann Kaiser Wallis (Walter) of Carbondale, Illinois, and Edith M. Arnold (James) of Evansville; sons, Riley L. Winders, Jr. (Monica) of Evansville and Raymond H. Winders (Kristi) of Bluford, Illinois; granddaughters, Courtney Rueger (Nick), Gretchen Winders, Angela Lyons, Carrissa Arnold, and Diana Arnold, all of Evansville, and Madison Lane of Bluford, Illinois; grandsons, Evan Kaiser and Peter Kaiser (Crystal), both of Evansville, Stephen Winders of New Albany, Indiana, Ryan Winders and Riley J. Winders of Bluford, Illinois; great-grandson, Nathan Kaiser; and great-granddaughter, Audrey Rueger, both of Evansville. Services will be held 6 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Alexander West Chapel. Friends may visit Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Private graveside services are being held on Monday. Memorial contributions in memory of Myrtle may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association of Evansville.
