Dorothy Mae Newman, 84, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at her home after a long illness.

The former Dorothy Mae Heierman was born on February 19, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1943. On January 17, 1945, Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Eddie Newman. She devoted her life to her family. Dorothy attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Benjamin "Eddie" Newman Jr. of Evansville, Ind.; son and daughter-in-law, Reece and Mary Newman of Chicago, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Randy Koehnen of Cairo, Ky.; grandchildren, Clint Newman and his wife Lacey of Nashville, Tenn., Natalie Shelor and her husband Andrew of Knoxville, Tenn., Kirk Newman of Chicago, Ill., and Angela Bowling of Evansville, Ind.; two great-grandchildren, Blake Shelor and Victoria Newman; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Valara Heierman of Cairo, Ky.; sister-in-law, Barbara Heierman of Evansville, Ind.; and a wonderful family friend, Hasan Afshari of Orange County, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ben Newman in 1970, a granddaughter, Dorothy Koehnen and grandson, Ben Koehnen, both in 2005 and a brother, Frank Heierman.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Southern Care Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion shown to Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at Boone Funeral Home ~ East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue Evansville, with the Reverend Shane O'Neil officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel and again from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010.
