Paul D. Williams

Paul D. Williams, 79, of Evansville , died Friday, September 24, 2004 , at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center .

After graduating from Bosse High School , he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. He then completed a business degree at

Evansville College .

He and his business partner, Ed Brashears, operated two successful real estate companies — Evansville Realty and Urban Investment — from the early 1950s until their retirement in 1985.

Paul was a founding member of the Evansville Multi-List. He was also a Sunday school superintendent at First Baptist Church and a founding member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church .

Paul was successful at all of his many interests. He was an award-winning member of the Evansville Camera Club, and he enjoyed many rides and established many friendships in the Evansville Bicycle Club.He was a two-time national triathlon age group champion, and in 1990, he earned the title of world champion.Many competitors — 20, 30, even 40 years his junior — from triathlons to marathon runs, watched him pass them by. In spite of all his accomplishments, Paul will be remembered most for his humor and his contagious joy for living.He had time for everyone, and everyone was glad for his time — no more so than his children, Mark, Paula and Scott; his grandchildren, Elyse, Eric and Evan Bryant; his daughters-in-law, Dee Gee and Traci Williams; his son-in-law, Michael Bryant; his first wife, Jeanne Williams; his brothers, Bob and Jim; numerous nieces and nephews; and his very loving wife, Mary, with whom he hiked, ran, bicycled and traveled in many states and countries.

The family expresses special appreciation to Paul's stepdaughter, Becky Fitzsimmons, and her husband, Dave, for all of their help and support.

Friends may visit today, Sunday, September 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. , at Alexander East Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 27 at 10 a.m. at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dan Hendricks.Entombment will be in Park Lawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Charlier Hospice Center , 610 Walnut Street , Evansville , IN 47713 .
