Charles Schmidt

Dr. Charles Schmidt passed away at his home Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Schmidt. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last year.

Also surviving are four daughters and their husbands, Karen and Kevin Cantner, Jane and Jim Cruise, Anita and Wayne Luigs and Brenda and Mike Mobley, and five grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jennah Cantner, James Cruise, Kristy Luigs and Cameron Mobley.

Dr. Schmidt graduated from Bosse High School in 1944 and Evansville College in 1946. He served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska after receiving his undergraduate degree. After serving his country, he received his medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1951. He was in private practice from 1951 to 1974 before joining Welborn Clinic. He practiced at Welborn Clinic from 1974 to 1988, until his retirement.

Dr. Schmidt was a member of the Indiana State Podiatry Association, where he was elected president in 1975, and the National Podiatry Association. He served as professor for the American Academy of Family Practice from 1976 to 1986, and co-founded the Podiatry Residency Program at Welborn Hospital, now St. Mary's Medical Center. Dr. Schmidt was recognized for his distinguished service to Welborn Baptist Hospital, St. Mary's Medical Center, Deaconess Hospital and Evansville State Hospital.

Dr. Schmidt and his wife, Marjorie, were charter members of Oak Meadow Country Club. He belonged to the Sertoma Service Club, West Haven Gun Club, the Isaac Walton League and was an avid water fowler and fisherman.

Private services were conducted at Sunset Memorial Park, with entombment at Sunset Memorial Mausoleum.
