Charles Schmidt

Gerald A. Schmidt, 80, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007, at his residence.

He was born June 30, 1927, in Warrick County. Gerald was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and a member of the International Association Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 37 for 55 years. Gerald was involved in the Insulators Industry in some capacity for seven decades, beginning in 1948 and working into 2001.

He attended the schools of Chandler, Lynch, and Vogel and was a 1944 graduate of Bosse High School. Gerald also attended Evansville College where he was an active member in the Purple Aces Club and was a member of the Old Vogel School Alumni. He served in the United States Army Engineers from 1945 to 1946 and was a member of the American Legion Post 306 and a lifetime member of BPOE 1428, both of Metropolis, Ill.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean (Becker) Schmidt, of Evansville; daughter, Janet Ingram and her husband, David, of Logansport, Ind.; grandsons, Neil Ingram and his wife, Alexandra, of Los Angeles and Grant Ingram and his wife, Kirby, of Indianapolis; great-granddaughter, Peri Kay Ingram; brother, Donald "Buzz" Schmidt and his wife, Audrey, of Evansville; and nieces and nephews, Kim Hodges, John Hodges, Ashley Hodges, Sandra and James Smith, JoAnn Bryant, Michael Reed, Jon Reed, Joni and J.D. Heugel, Jan and Erin Reichel, Eric Schmidt, Nellie and Jim Daugherty.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeri Schmidt, in February of 2004 at the age of 56; his parents, Lizetta (Winternheimer) and Albert Schmidt; brother, Bryon; and a sister, Marian Reed.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, with Pastor Eric Stroshine officiating. Burial will be held at Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery, 6400 Oak Hill Rd., Evansville.

Friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Browning Funeral Home.
