Frederick E. Shatara


Frederick E. Shatara, 79, of Evansville, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Deaconess Gateway Emergency Room.

Frederick was born March 28, 1927, to Frederick I. and Mae Shatara in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1932, Frederick and his family moved to Evansville. He was a 1944 graduate of Bosse High School, and a graduate of Evansville College and the University of Chicago. Frederick was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II as part of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (Shaef) in Europe. He retired as an accountant for the Indiana Department of Revenue. Frederick was a 40-year member of First Presbyterian Church and a life member of Alpha Phi Omega, a life member of National Rifle Association, a life member of Amateur Trap Shooting Association, and a member of the Evansville Kennel Club and the Evansville Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Erlus (Locker) Horner Shatara; one daughter, Gina T. Shatara of Crestview Hills, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Lisa (Horner) Bolatto of Evansville, Joyce (Niemeier) Sanders of Evansville, and Cynthia (Bennett) Mills of Evansville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy (Cook) Shatara and one stepdaughter, Julie Horner.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., with Reverend Wendy McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. today, from 11 a.m. until service time, Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
