Dr. William N. Stephens, 82, formerly of Evansville, died Oct. 27, 2009, in Tallahassee, Florida. Dr. Stephens graduated from Bosse High School in 1944 and served in the army for two years. After finishing his undergraduate education he completed his doctoral degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Harvard University. Dr. Stephens was an author and teacher. He wrote several books in his field and taught at the University of Kansas, Florida Atlantic University, and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Survivors include sons, Mark N. Stephens (Janice Stephens) of Tallahassee and K. Michael Stephens (Judith Stephens) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; brother, Dr. Mark W. Stephens (Dr. Dorothy Stephens) of Evansville; and two grandchildren. There will be no local memorial service.
