James Donald "Don" Ginger, 80, of Evansville passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at his West Side home. Don graduated from Bosse High School in 1945.
Don worked for Mead Johnson/Bristol Myers Squibb for 35 years before retiring in 1991. Don was a multitalented individual. In his younger, playful days, he enjoyed bowling, boating and golfing. He was a talented and self-taught artist, accomplished in several media. His artwork will be forever enjoyed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Irene (Martin) Ginger and a brother, William "Bill" Ginger.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maxine F. (Brand) Ginger, of Evansville; a daughter, Linda "Lin" McClain and her husband, Albert "Doc," of Newburgh; two sons, James "Jim" Ginger and wife, Carol, of Virginia and Mike Ginger and his wife, Sherry, of Missouri. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jody Ginger, Amy Ginger, Sgt. Trevor Helmer of the Indiana State Police and his wife, Tracy, Wade Helmer and wife, Andrea, Detective Shawn Helmer of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Matt Ginger and wife, Amy, Jacob Ginger and wife, Laura; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Dylan, Conor, Leahana, Reed, Rylie and a much anticipated Levi (due in November); brothers, Richard "Rich" Ginger and wife, Jeanie, of California and Jack Ginger and wife, Margaret, of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Suzanne Ashley, of California; nieces, nephews, special friends, Bob and Mary Rollett and other special neighbors and friends.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2008, at Pierre Funeral Home, the Rev. Michael Stoelting officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Don's great-granddaughter to the Rylie Helmer Fund at any Old National Bank branch.
