Benjamin "Ben" H. Greiner, 82, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. He was born August 14, 1927, in Evansville, Indiana, to Charles H. and Anna (Zimmerman) Greiner. He attended Vogel School and graduated from Bosse High School in 1946. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company in 1983, spending 22 years as a Lineman and eight years as a supply man and in the storeroom. Ben enjoyed working with people, volunteering at Wesselman Park Nature Center and Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Pioneer retirees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Schauss Greiner in 2001. He is survived by his sisters, Frieda Foertsch and Esther Juncker, both of Evansville; and nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2009, at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Chip Jahn with burial to follow. Friends may visit Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street.
