Bonnie (Greubel) Stephens, 82, of Newburgh passed away early Friday morning, August 13, 2010, at Evansville Protestant Home, surrounded by her family. Born on April 17, 1928, she was the only child of Fred and Florence Greubel. Bonnie is survived by her husband of 61 years, William D. Stephens of Newburgh; daughters, Missy Bohling (Jeff) of Newburgh and Barbara Long (Jim) of Evansville. She was also blessed with three grandchildren who survive her, Katie Bohling and Michael Bohling, both of Chicago and Betsy Fleenor (Nathan) of Evansville; and her great grandchild, Jeffrey Thomas (J.T.) Fleenor. Bonnie graduated from Bosse High School in 1946, and attended Evansville College where she graduated in 1949, and completed her Masters Degree in Education at Indiana University in 1950. While at Evansville College, Bonnie was crowned "May Queen" in 1949 and was a member of the Castilian Sorority Alpha Omega Pi. She was an active member of the Lady Elks, and the president of Legal Mrs. and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Bonnie, affectionately referred to as "Bounce" by her husband Bill, was an enthusiastic and memorable teacher who embraced the gift of teaching with exuberance and passion. Her greatest pride and joy was her unbounded love for her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Additionally, she adored her beloved Shih Tzu "Pebbles". Bonnie's family would like to thank Dr. Karl Sash and his staff, the Evansville Protestant Home and staff, who demonstrated compassionate care and support. The family would also like to thank all the staff members from Vista Care who attended to Bonnie with kindness and respect during her final days. Additionally, the family would like to extend a special thank you to Bonnie's caregivers, Joyce Adams, Yolanda Cabell, Rolanda Johnson, Beverly Rowley, and Misty Tilford. These individuals showed kindness and compassion to Bonnie by alleviating her suffering and assisting the family in so many ways. Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Father Stephen Lintzenich officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel. Memorials may be made to Evansville Protestant Home, 3701 Washington Avenue, 47714; Vista Care Hospice, 323 Metro Avenue, 47715; or the food pantry at St. Mary Catholic Church, 613 Cherry Street, 47713, all located in Evansville.
