Russell N. Gray, 83, of Evansville, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at North Park Nursing Home. Russell was born in Evansville on June 4, 1926, to Russell D. and Norma Jean (Klauss) Gray. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1947 and joined the United States Army. Russell retired from Whirlpool Corp. July 1, 1988. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1114 and a member of Heritage Baptist Church. Russell loved to go to the Casino Aztar with his wife, Greta. He enjoyed the company of his dog, Jake. Russell enjoyed watching classic movies on TV with his wife, Greta. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Medcalf of Evansville, Connie Brown and Shelly Melton, all of Evansville; one son, Russell Gray and his wife, Lori, of Evansville; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helynn "Greta" (Pirtle) Gray, in 2006, his brother, Charles "Jack" Gray, in 2004, his nephew, Charlie Gray, grandsons, Aaron Matthew Gray, in 2002 and Mark Alan Gibson, in 2008, and his parents, Russell D. and Norma Jean (Klauss) Gray. Funeral services 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Reverend Maurice Melton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with full military rites by the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Club. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, February 23, 2010, and 9 a.m. to service time at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel.
