Gilberta C. Arend
Gilberta C. Arend, 78, of Newburgh, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Jan. 9, 1930.
She attended Chandler (Ind.) Elementary School and graduated from Bosse High School in 1948. She was employed by IBM in Rochester, Minn., and transferred to San Jose, Calif. Gilberta was an active member in church and taught Sunday school to young children. She attended Arthur Murray School of Dance. She enjoyed reading and loved to travel and traveled abroad.
After retirement in 1992, she and her two cats, Tabby and Solo, moved back to Newburgh in 1995. She became a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh.
She was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Arend; her mother, Anna (Weber) Arend; brother, Phillip "Bud" Arend; and sisters, Valeria Arend, Ethel Jodoi and Ruby Gillis.
Gilberta is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Richard Granderson of Chrisney, Ind.; and her sister-in-law, Charlotte Arend of Texas. She had many nieces and nephews: Terry Wayne Arend and Judy of Illinois; Valerie Maxie, Lori and Steve Smith, all of Texas; Robin Jodoi of Florida; Kevin and Tammy Jodoi of Texas; Ginger Gillis, Richard and Linda Ganderson, Randy and Debbie Granderson, Becky and Gary Murphy, Danny and Charity Granderson, all of Indiana. She also had several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 Jennings St., Newburgh, Ind. Pastor Dan Kennedy of Zion UCC will officiate. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
