Helen L. "Nana" (Durgy) Nelson

Helen L. "Nana" (Durgy) Nelson, age 75, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006.

She was born August 10, 1930, in Evansville, Ind. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1948, and then graduated from Welborn Memorial Baptist Nursing School. She was a resident of New Lenox, Ill., for five years, formerly of Schaumburg, Ill., for 30 years.

She retired as a school nurse for Palos District 117; was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Schaumburg for 30 years and a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Joliet, Ill., for five years.

She is survived by her loving family: husband, Richard Nelson; son, Mark (Robyn) Nelson; daughters, Susan (Guy) Gorney and Ruth Shirley; brothers, Richard Durgy and David and Edward Bell Jr.; sisters, June (the late George "Slim") Cissell and Gloria Dossett; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was known to everyone as "Nana."

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Madge (nee Sandefur) Durgy Bell; a brother, William Durgy; and stepfather, Edward Bell Sr.

Services were held at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way (Corner of La Grange Road South of Lincoln Highway), Frankfort, Ill., 60423 at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006.
