Jack Lee Powers Sr., 76, of Evansville, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at Deaconess Hospital.
Jack was a [1948] graduate of Bosse High School and a member of First Christian Church of Evansville. After graduation, he dispatched and drove for Yellow Cab Company, as well as sold for Dr. Pepper. Jack was owner of Jack Powers Cleaning Service for 40 years, Powers Laundromat and Car Wash for 30 years; and operated Powers Auction Service. He was also a freelance photographer, known as "Big Cam," for WFIE Channel 14. Jack enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and coin collecting.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Powers of Evansville; sons, David Powers and his wife, Jenny of Lake Arrowhead, California, John Powers and his wife, Jan of Evansville, Charlie Powers and his wife, Jarrett of Evansville, and Jack Powers Jr. and his wife, Dena, also of Evansville; daughters, Rosemary Rainey, and Susan Phillips and her husband, Jeff, all of Evansville. Also surviving are sisters, Beverly Selby and her husband, Milford, and Elizabeth Grimm, all of Evansville; a brother, Herb Powers and his wife, Barb of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 28, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel,
800 South Hebron Avenue, with Reverend James Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 27, at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
