Dick Bosse, Longtime Dallas rare-books dealer, died 04/21/2000, at the age of 65. Born in Evansville, Ind., Mr. Bosse graduated from Bosse High School in 1951, named for an uncle. He moved to Dallas to attend SMU, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and literature in 1955. Mr. Bosse had a vision for book collecting that took him far beyond advice about obvious collection categories, said longtime friend Tom Keener of Dallas. He was also ahead of his time, often pointing out collectibles 30 years ahead of their day. He was also known for his wit, which he would sprinkle throughout his book catalogs. The sometimes salty, biting humor always made Mr. Bosse's catalog worth reading. Two years later, he was an SMU graduate student when he took a job at Aldredge Book Store. In a 1991 interview, Mr. Bosse said the shop seemed more interesting than the dissertation he was writing at the time. Mr. Bosse died at his former wife's home. He is survived by a daughter, Paula Bosse of Dallas; a son, Erik Bosse of Fort Worth; a partner, Gail Glick of Dallas; his former wife, Margaret Werry of Dallas; and a sister, Diane Bower of Pebble Beach, Calif. |
