James D. Gauer, 77, of Evansville, passed away Monday May 2, 2011 at Deaconess. He was born August 22, 1933 in Evansville, IN.

He graduated from Bosse High School in 1951, served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Charles Derby Post 2953. He was retired after 42 years from Inland Container and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

James is preceded in death by his parents, George and Nora Gauer; son, Michael J. Gauer; brothers, Jack and George Gauer.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Zachary Gauer; son, David L. Gauer of Evansville; daughters, Kimberly A. Gauer of Evansville, Lori M. Schorr (Bryan) of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, April Jacobs, Michael Gauer, Zachary Brockey, and Jacob Brockey; great-granddaughter, Josilynn Gauer; nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Elvis.

Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday May 5, 2011 at Alexander West Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday May 4, at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions may be made to, Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3101 N. Green River Rd, Evansville, IN 47715, in memory of Michael J. Gauer.

Lori and Kim- Me and Becky are so sorry for your loss, our father passed away in September (a total surprise) he seemed always healthy, he died at 71 years of age. Our prayers are with you two and may your memories keep you going! Becky is in New York and would be there for you if she could, so she sends her love! Praying for your family!
