Thomas M. Egan, Jr., 75, passed away on December 27th at Deaconess Hospital.

He was born in Oklahoma City, the only child of Thomas M. and Ethel Scott Egan. The family moved to Evansville in 1943 where Tom attended St. Benedict's and Stanley Hall grade schools and graduated from Bosse High School in 1954. His education continued at Indiana University and the University of Oklahoma, was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and received a Bachelor's Degree from O.U. and M.B.A. from I.U.

Tom joined the U. S. Marine Corps in 1960 and served on active and reserve duty through 1966.

His business career began at Mead Johnson & Company where he worked from 1962-1977, serving the last 4 years as Vice President of Marketing. He then joined Hoffmann-LaRoche in Nutley, N.J. as Vice President of Marketing and Sales. Following that, he served on the staff of the United States Golf Association in Far Hills, N.J. and was employed by Kidder Peabody as an Account Manager. Mr. and Mrs. Egan returned to Evansville in 1991 when he became President of Solar Pharmaceuticals. In 1999 he joined Barnes & Noble as Community Relations Manager and remained with the company until his death. Tom was an avid reader. Two of his favorite authors were Michael Connelly and Dick Francis. Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, bright mind and keen sense of humor.

Tom was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn (Kattmann) Egan; brother-in-law and wife, Bill and Judy Kattmann; nephews and niece, O.W. Kattmann, III (Angie), Ted Kattmann (Danielle), and Katie Griffin (Steve); grand nephews and niece, Dylan Griffin, Samuel, Will and Ellen Kattmann.

Friends may visit on Thursday, December 29th from 4 to 7 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron. Tom has bequeathed his body to the Indiana University of Medical Anatomy.

A graveside service will take place at a later date.

I was so sorry to read about Tom this morning. He was a bright, pleasant, and good man who lived a worthwhile life. My sincere condolences, Carolyn.

dear Carolyn sorry to hear about the loss of Tom. As tom helped at all the golf tournaments for many years he was always there to help... and as I aged with his quick wit didn't have a problem to encourage me to better for the "OLD GUYS".......You and your family will be in our thought's and prayer.
