Barbara E. Zaieck, 67, of Evansville , died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 , at River Pointe Health Cam- pus. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis W. Zaieck, in 1998.
She is survived by her mother, Rosemarie Ryan Zaieck; cousins; godchildren, Jennifer Johns Mazur and Barbara Jill Johns; caregivers, Mary Jean Anderson Johns and Pat Fitzgerald Schaffer; and friends from Bosse Class of 1955.
Barbara graduated from Bosse High School in 1955. She then attended Indiana State University . She taught 2nd grade for a short time in Kentucky and Chicago , before becoming employed by Illinois Department of Labor as an Employment Interviewer. Barbara then moved to Indianapolis , where she was one of three people who opened the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission District Office. There she became a Senior Investigator and Enforcement Supervisor. She was elected Federal Women's Coordinator for a five-state region and was a speaker throughout the state and region at many conferences prior to her retirement due to ill health.
She was a former member of Bethel United Church of Christ, where she was baptized and confirmed. She belonged to the Robert Morris Chapter of Eastern Star Chapter 87. Barbara was also active in the Bosse dinner group for several years upon returning to Evansville .
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004, at Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, officiated by Reverend Donald Bernhardt, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call today, September 10, 2004 , from 4 to 8 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel.
