Jimmie Gaines Sr., 67, of Evansville, Ind., died Thursday, September 29, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Mr. Gaines was born on February 4, 1938, in Evansville. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1956. Jimmie was a police officer, retiring from the Evansville Police Department in 1986. He then worked as a bus driver for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation, retiring in 1999.He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge 73.

Jimmie was a loving husband, father, brother, and loyal friend who enjoyed bird hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra (Guthrie) Gaines of Evansville; his son, Jimmie Gaines Jr. and his wife Cindy of Evansville; his sister, Travis Allen of Evansville; his brother, Dorris Ray Sandefur of Henderson, Ky.; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Finis and Luella Gaines and his sister, Dorothy Barbee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2005, at Boone Funeral Home — East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery where full rites will be conducted by the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 73.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2005, and from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2005, at Boone Funeral Home n East Chapel.
