Gary Wayne Katterhenry, 64, of Tell City, Indiana passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was born on September 4, 1945, in Rockport, Indiana. His parents were the late Ed and Ann (Bell) Katterhenry.

Gary graduated from Bosse High School [in 1963] in Evansville, Indiana and from University of Evansville in 1968. He started his teaching and coaching career at Turkey Run High School in Rockville, Indiana.

In 1972, he moved to Tell City where he taught Driver's Education and Health. Gary was a baseball coach and assistant basketball coach before becoming varsity head basketball coach at Tell City High School. He retired from Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation in 2000 where he had been employed for over 28 years.

Gary enjoyed his horses and miniature horses, fishing, Notre Dame Football, and Indiana University basketball, particularly when Bobby Knight coached. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Jaylie Bell.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie (Laflin) Katterhenry, Tell City, Indiana; daughter, Kristi Etienne, her husband Josh and daughter, Jaylie Bell; sister, Vicki Lacer and her husband, Bob, Newburgh, Indiana; brother, Don Katterhenry and his wife, Mickey, Evansville, Indiana; nephew, Steve Katterhenry his wife, Luann and children, Kayla and Kelci; nieces, Sherri Fisher, her husband Jimmy and children, Avery, Alex and Addison Kate, Jamie Wilhelmus, her husband, Kent and children, Karsyn and Eli, Jana Reiter, her husband Mike and children, Brady and Jace.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, located at Tenth and Mozart Street in Tell City, Indiana, with Pastor Ron Willis officiating. Burial will take place at Lilly Dale Cemetery in Gatchel following the service. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street in Tell City.

Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Horse Rescue South. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
