Tue 9/9/2008 8:22 AM

What a great meeting the committee had last night!  We are all set (we hope) and anxiously awaiting Oct. 10th & 11th.  Our final meeting will be Monday, October 6th at The Deerhead, 6:30 PM.  Please remember to get those auction items to me BEFORE Oct. 6th if you haven't turned them in to me yet.

Thanks one more time for all of your efforts and dedication to our 45th reunion!!  Without your reliable help, there would be no reunions.  Ya done good!

Carolyn

Tue 9/2/2008 1:51 PM

I am happy to report this 45th reunion is going to host the largest attendance of '63 classmates in a very long time!!  The "more the merrier" is certain to be true at this reunion.  I'm going to give you the newest attendees which now makes the total over 90 and it's sure to rise a little as I am still getting calls about registering:

Latest Classmates:

For you last minute stragglers, it's time to get those reservations in the mail.  If you aren't coming to the reunion, but want to include some info or a message to your classmates, just e-mail me the brief message (no more than 50 words) by Sept. 8th and I will include it in the booklet.  It goes to the printer Sept. 9th so nothing can be added after that date.  I need your reservation by the end of this week if you haven't mailed it yet!!

We have had a great reservation response and at this time we have 74 classmates and 3 teachers attending.  Time to get out those old year books and start putting names, listed below,  with faces (imagining them without hair, gray hair, lots of laugh lines, and a little/lot water retention).  Oh well, the name tags with high school photos will help with some of the trauma.

Several of the classmates that are coming have never attended a reunion before and it has been many, many years for some others.  We are truly thrilled you have chosen to attend our 45th!

For those of you coming early to Evansville for the 45th class reunion, bring empty tummies and lots of antacid tablets.  The west side Fall Festival is being held from October 6 through October 11 and that's another reason (besides cooler temps) we chose to have the reunion on that weekend.  The booths are run by not-for-profit groups to raise money for good causes. The festival is on W. Franklin St. from St. Joseph Ave. to Wabash Ave.  Come to Evansville early to experience a dieter's nightmare -- 7 blocks of over 100 food booths with anything and everything imaginable that has been fried and double fried!  My credentials as a food critic are excellent as I am a junk food junkie.  Here's a small sampling of food offered for your pleasure and/or daring nature: cow brain sandwiches, deep fried Twinkies, fried frog legs, chocolate covered crickets, homemade chicken & dumplings, deep fried Snickers bars, pronto pups, onion rings, corn fritters, elephant ears, emu burgers, and fried dill pickles.  OK, OK, for the weak of heart (and stomach) there are grilled chicken & pork tenderloin sandwiches, walking taco salads, frozen yogurt, whole roasted turkey legs and lots of other "good for you" stuff I've never tasted.  I can promise you an eating frenzy like you've never seen or will see again except at the Evansville Fall Festival.  Hundreds and hundreds of people line up every day and night at the booths hoping for a new or familiar taste sensation.  Of course you have the typical Midway where you can win your sweetie a stuffed animal with 'supposed' skill, ride the rides, toss ping pong balls into goldfish bowls with live fish (fish is the prize), and see some freaky side shows.

Here are some of my recommendations if you want to visit the festival:

1.  Attend during 'off' hours.  Of course the busiest times and longest lines will be from 11:00 - 1:00 and from 5:00 - 7:00 so plan on going before 11:00 AM or after 1:00 for lunch.  Some of the booths open at 10:00 AM and all are open by 11:00.  I believe the booths are open until 10:00 PM (way past my bedtime).  Any evening after 6:00 PM will present food lines resembling a food drop in Ethiopia.

2.  Parking -- instead of driving around for hours looking for a vacant parking place on a side street (which you are surely going to get blocked in bumper to bumper when you're ready to leave), give some scout troop or such about $5 to park in church lot or other vacant lot.  Heck, you need to get those leg muscles warmed up anyway and ready for the trek to the seven blocks of food booths and wall to wall people.

3.  Eating -- you MUST learn to eat and walk at the same time.  Seating is limited to sitting on a curb (if you are lucky enough to find one).  There are approximately 10 picnic tables in the Franklin St. median for 10,000 people.  Elderly folks come early in the morning to get these prime locations and don't leave until dark.  Carry your food as high as you can because monstrous dogs on leashes (brought by their thoughtless owners) are just waiting for you to give them a chance at free food carried low.

4.  Dress Code:  Do NOT wear anything white or a solid shirt.  Paisley print is the best bet to blend in with those drops of grease, mustard, ketchup, and various sauces.  Bibs are optional, but embarrassing.  Shoes must be for comfort (no stilettos)and orthodics are recommended.

If you will follow these hints I've given you, you are sure to have an enjoyable and tummy-filling excursion unlike any you have had before.  Tradition is big in Evansville and you will considered 'unamerican' if you are in the city and don't attend.  I sincerely hope these personal tips have helped other 'grease gourmets' enjoy the festival without too much indigestion and other tribulations.

Burp!

Excuse me please.

The committee was amazed last night at hearing the number of classmates that are supposedly "coming" to the reunion, but we haven't received their reservations yet.  Please get those reservations in the mail before the end of August!  We need to have the number count as close as possible for ordering food, drinks, etc.  We can only accommodate a few "last minute" reservations.

For the committee members -- the final 2 meetings will be Monday, September 8th and Monday, October 6th which will be held at The Pub on Division St.  6:30 PM.  We need your presence for the final details and a reminder of "who's doing what," times, problems, etc.  If you are responsible for auction items, please bring them to the meeting along with receipts for your reimbursement if you had to pay for items!

Reunion time is nearing and the committee is so excited about the events planned for your pleasure.  We believe this will truly be a reunion to remember!!

Someone is supposed to make reservations for the committee meeting, but I don't remember who it is. Maybe this will jog their memory. I seem to have no memory at this point. :^)

We had a productive meeting last night and the next one is schedule for Monday, July 14, 6:30 P.M. at Marla (White) Beaven's house at 3813 Washington Ave. I will give directions to Marla's home in the "reminder" e-mail. At that time we will be getting the final reminder postcard ready for mailing at the end of July. It's hard to believe we have a little over 3 months until the reunion! Still lots to do so we ask that the members who have attended the committee meetings in the past and volunteered for a responsibility, please attend this upcoming meeting.

Cut off date for mailing those reservations is Aug. 30th. Please send them ASAP.

Thanks to the classmates who sent their reservations in and to the ones who wrote to say they were unable to come to the reunion. Every postage stamp saved on our reminder postcards being sent in a few months is appreciated. If there are more of you that know you will not be attending the reunion, I would appreciate it if you would send me an e-mail saying you aren't coming. I don't know which price is going up faster, gas or stamps! OK, OK, gas wins!

Monday night 4/14 is our next reunion committee at the Deerhead on Columbia St. at 6:30. Please make an extra effort to be there. New faces are always welcome!

Carolyn

Wed 3/19/2008 9:19 AM

I don't know what it is about scheduling our reunion meetings that brings about horrible weather, but we have gotten lousy weather on our meeting nights for months now. We had almost 6" of rain in a 24 hr. period yesterday. We have met with tornado warnings being sounded, sleet and ice, and monsoon rains on several occasions. Talk about a dedicated committee---we go to extreme limits to serve you. :^)

In another attempt to get new faces at our meetings, we will have our next meeting on MONDAY (instead of the usual Tuesdays), April 14 at the Deerhead (Columbia St.) at 6:30 P.M. Please mark this date on your calendars and come and have fun with us helping to bring new faces, ideas, and help for your reunion. OK, I'm begging -- HELP!!

The reunion reservations are coming in slowly as expected, but if you are planning on attending and can send in your reservations and checks now, we would appreciate it. We need some working capital for the reunion
expenses. We have only received 11 classmates' reservations so far.

I have asked Paul Heller to send us an updated "missing classmates list" as soon as possible. We have had 21 returned envelopes with wrong addresses since our last postcard mailing. Maybe you have some knowledge of their whereabouts and can help us locate them.

Hope to see some new faces at our April 14th meeting.

Carolyn

Fri 3/14/2008 2:21 PM

Don't forget our next reunion meeting is this coming Tuesday, March 18 at The Deerhead (Columbia St.) 6:30. Please attend this meeting especially if you haven't been in awhile or ever attended. We need some additional
volunteers for some committees. We need your help to make this 45th reunion fun for all of us. Many hands make little work as my Grandma used to say!! We need some more hands.

Carolyn

We, the reunion committee, would like to thank those of you who sent your reservations in early to attend the 45th reunion and would like to send a gentle reminder to the rest of you to please send those reservations in now if you are planning to attend:

$50 per person for Friday night and Saturday afternoon & evening.

$20 per person for Friday night only.

A great meeting last night with lots of help to get our invitation/reservation letters ready for mailing. I appreciate the help and efforts to attend the meeting at Bosse. Thanks to Jack Schriber for providing us Mr. Hyatt's music room at Bosse for our assembly line of folding, stuffing, stamping, etc. It was wonderful to be back at Bosse and see familiar sights and its old beauty. Paul has done such a wonderful job of finding "missing" people, we ran out stamps and some labels. The letters will be mailed at the end of February.

Carolyn

Wed 11/14/2007 8:45 AM

The Bulldogs set a record for attendance last night. We will not have a meeting in December and will meet again on Tuesday, January 8, 6:30 PM, Turoni's on North Main St. Please put this date on your new year calendar. Postcards with basic information are being mailed today so you can reserve the dates for attending your 45th class reunion.

Carolyn (Clark) Barrett

Mon 10/29/2007 10:21 AM

OK Bulldogs, this is your last chance to inform us of any address changes since 2003 (also new phone numbers and E-mail addresses) for our first postcard mailing about the upcoming reunion. We want everyone to receive this card and save the dates for 2008 to see your classmates and have some fun with us! Please help us save postage by giving us your correct address before we mail next month.

(HINT) We think you will enjoy the "different" type of reunion we have planned for you!

Carolyn (Clark) Barrett

The reunion committee is making great progress in having a fun-filled 45th Reunion next year on October 10 & 11th, 2008. SURPRISE! You "E-mailers" are the first to know so mark it on your calendars. Details will follow soon. See, we really are working hard for our Bulldog Buddies.

I now need your help in sending me any of your updated information that might have changed since the last reunion. This includes name changes for the ladies, addresses, phone numbers or cell numbers, and E-mail address. This information is needed for making labels for the mailing of the invitation letter for the reunion and updating the reunion booklet information you will be given at the reunion. Neither Paul Heller nor I are sure we have the same information. NONE OF THIS PERSONAL INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE ELSE -- PROMISE! Please give us the E-mail addresses of any other classmates you might have that are current. We have no way of knowing how many of our classmates are still taking part in our Bosse '63 forum group message site and receiving our group messages.

REUNION COMMITTEE MEMBERS mark your calendars. Next meeting is on Tuesday, October 9th at The Deer Head 6:30 P.M.

Thanks for any help you can give us to get our news and 45th Reunion information to as many classmates as possible.

Carolyn (Clark) Barrett

Sun 9/9/2007 3:41 PM

The next reunion planning meeting will be an important meeting. It will be this coming Tuesday, Sept. 11 at The Deer Head, 222 E. Columbia St. at 6:30 P.M. Please make every effort to attend this meeting as we will decide a meeting place for Friday night and other important 'stuff.' We will have the meeting first and then chat and eat the yummy double-decker pizza and imbibe in some liquid refreshments :^)

Carolyn Barrett

Wed 8/15/2007 9:50 AM

We had a very slim attendance last night due to illness and other problems. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11th at the Deer Head Tavern on Columbia St. at 6:30 P.M. Please plan to attend this meeting as final decisions will need to be made. See ya there!

Carolyn

Sun 7/15/2007 2:30 PM

The reunion committee will hold the next meeting at the Roca Bar on Kentucky Ave. on Tuesday, August 14th at 6:30 P.M. Come and share pizza and ideas with us!

Carolyn

Sunday, June 10, 2007

Fall 2008 may seem a long way off to some readers, but not to the planning committee of the Bosse High School Class of 1963.

Former classmates gathered to discuss plans for their 45th reunion in the Pestwick Place, home of newlyweds Carolyn (Clark) Barrett and her husband, John. The discussion topics included how to contact former classmates, where to celebrate, what to serve and who would be in charge of what committees.

Committee members include Jane Cates, Roger Griffin, Nancy Hills, Steve and Ann Frazer, Marla White, Barbara Beadle, Carl Kuebler, Harold Vote, Gayle Gordon and Carolyn and John Barrett.

Wed 6/6/2007 7:12 AM

Your first 45th reunion committee joined in hugs and smiles last night for its first meeting.  Those attending were:  Ann (Comstock) Fraser, Barb (Fowler) Beadle, Jack Schriber, Harold Vote, Carl Kuebler, Roger Griffin, John Barrett, Gayle (Smith) Gordon, Marla (White) Beavin, Nancy (Hays) Hills, Jane (Voight) Cates, and myself.  Individual committees were set up to get this show on the road.

We are now determining availability of sites, dates, etc.  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 10 at Stavro's Restaurant (next to Cheeseburger In Paradise and Cracker Barrel) -- 6:30 PM.  If you missed the first meeting and would like to join us, please come!

I would like to encourage you to visit the web site bossehs.net  Tim Wirtz (Class of 64) has set up.  Then go to "Alumni List" and click and you will find the Class of '63 with lots of information, Commencement Program, etc.  It's a wonderful site and Tim does a great job of keeping it updated!!

Speaking of updates, it is time to send us all information on yourselves that has changed from our last reunion such as address, phone number, etc.  If you are in contact with other classmates who aren't in our bosse63 yahoo group, please ask them to contact Paul Heller at psheller@tx.rr.com to include their info.  Please note that Paul's E-mail address has also changed and he has changed it in the "reminder" message he sends us frequently.

We are excited to have started planning our 45th reunion and still need your help on finding classmates and updating info on them.  Paul will send a list of classmates to you for which we have no information.  I will keep you informed as to the progress of the committee decisions.  Remember, we can't please everyone, but we do try to please the majority.

Carolyn Barrett

P.S.  For those of you with sharp eyes and minds, you are right!  My last name has changed.  I was married on May 22, 2007 to John Franklin Barrett, also a classmate of ours.  John came to Bosse in his junior year from Oakland City and was one of the "brains" so I didn't know him well.  Do now!!

Sunday 5/13/2007 4:16 PM

It's that time again Bulldogs! On Tuesday, June 5th we will have our first, 45th class reunion meeting at my home (5574 Prestwick Rd., Newburgh) at 6:30 PM. If you are planning to ATTEND our first meeting, please E-mail or call me at 490-1258. If you need directions to my home, just call me and I would be glad to help you find your way.

I have not had a great response from the classmates, only 6 replies, requesting the type of reunion you would like to have, activities, month to have it, etc. Surely, more of you would like to voice your opinions. So far, the 6 responses have included: "very casual, cheap, beer, two nights of festivities, and have it during the cooler fall months."

It sure is sad to begin this first meeting without Marsha McKain. She had helped plan every reunion since our 5th with us. Bet she's looking down on us and smiling!

Please call, attend, and help get this show on the road!

Can you believe it is time to start planning our 45th class reunion? Carl Kuebler and I have already been getting inquiries about when the planning meetings will begin. Now is the time to let Carl or myself know if you would be interested in becoming a member of the reunion committee. We need to know by Friday, May 11th how many people will be coming to the first planning meeting to know if we need to have it at a large place (such as a restaurant with a private room) or we could have it at someone's home. We will have the first planning meeting at the end of May or first of June. E-mail me at singllade@juno.com to let me know you would like to participate in the first planning meeting for our big 2008 party.

This is also the perfect time to share your ideas with us on what type of reunion you would like to have. We have had comments already suggesting we have the type of reunion we had for our 60th birthday party -- casual and picnic style. Some people are suggesting we have the same type of reunion we have had in the past -- casual on Friday night and a little dressier on Saturday night. Please remember we go by the old saying "majority rules" so we cannot please everyone as much as we try. We could even have the reunion in a later month such as Sept. or Oct. to alleviate the feeling of being in a sauna in the month of August in Evansville. Being an "old girl," hot flashes and heat don't go well together!! Just throw your suggestions out to us and we will do our best to give you a memorable and fun 45th reunion.

Thanks for your help and suggestions and we hope to see you in 2008!
