Virginia Rose (Bronnenkant) Smith


Virginia Rose (Bronnenkant) Smith, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, at 5:10 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2006.

Mrs. Smith was the former Virginia Rose Bronnenkant. She was born in 1913 in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College and taught in Plainfield, Indiana, at the Plainfield Boys School. She came to Evansville in 1939 to teach at Bosse High School, where she remained for 16 years. She was involved in many student activities there and was affectionately known as "Miss B" by many of her students. She also taught eight years at North High School, before retiring in 1970.

Mrs. Smith was a past president of Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and past president of Associate chapter of Tri Kappa sorority. She served as president of the YWCA Board of Directors in 1970. She served as an active member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, and was a member of Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church in Louisville.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 1973. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Wilson, of Florida, and Phillis Mudd, of Louisville, Kentusky, two granddaughters, Amy Matheson, of Louisville, and Gretchen Armstrong, of Indianapolis, two grandsons, Kevin Mudd, of Louisville, and R. J. Spencer, of Clearwater, Florida, five great-grandsons, Andrew, Sam, Jake, Noah and Dylan, two great-granddaughters, Molly & Mya and four nieces.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5300 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Indiana. Private burial will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time, Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Indiana.
