Harry James Digman Sr.


NEW HARMONY - Harry James Digman Sr., 59, of New Harmony, Ind., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 6, 2006.

Harry was born in Evansville, Indiana, on October 10, 1946, to Harry and Syble Digman. He attended Bosse High School [Class of 1964?]. Harry married Peggy (Pierce) Digman on April 23, 1966.

Harry left for the Army on May 5, 1966, where he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He was later stationed at Fort Wainright in Fairbanks, Alaska. Upon his return, he and his wife resided in Evansville for a short while. He and his family later moved to Mount Vernon, Indiana. Harry and his family lived in Savah for 30 years, until his death.

Harry worked for several years as a boilermaker at B&W. He then helped his father build houses. Harry also worked for Sterling Boiler for 10 years, and then for Creative Craftsman until his illness in 2000.

Harry was a member of the American Legion Post 5 in Mount Vernon, Indiana. He attended Bethesda General Baptist Church in Savah. He had committed his life to Christ.

Harry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Peggy (Pierce) Digman; his mother and father, Harry and Syble Digman of Evansville; three children: his daughter, Chris Cooper of Vincennes; sons, Jay of Mount Vernon and Charley and his wife, Megan of Carmi, Ill.; two brothers, Robert of Newburgh, Indiana, and Earl of Estes Park, Colorado. Harry adored his six grandchildren, Travis and Taylor Digman of Mount Vernon, Ashleigh, Gage and Alexis Cooper of Vincennes and Payton James Digman of Carmi, Ill. Also surviving are two very dear family friends, Shannon Smith and Emily Breeze.

Harry enjoyed fishing, spending time with his faithful cat, Arlus, and listening to gospel music. Harry was happiest when he was surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren, who could always make him laugh and bring a smile to his face.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Austin Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Pastor Steve Forister and Brother Jesse Pierce officiating, and burial in McFaddin Cemetery near Savah. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, and from 1 p.m. to service time on Monday, at the funeral home.
