Mary Frances (Fisher) Smith Woehler


Mary Frances (Fisher) Smith Woehler, 96, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Evansville Protestant Home. She was born December 19, 1910, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She graduated from Bosse High School [1928?] and Evansville College. She was a teacher for 15 years in the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Corp., having taught 14 years at Culver Elementary School and one year at Dexter School before resigning.

As a volunteer at Welborn Hospital for 38 years, she served over 12,000 hours. Mary was a member of Methodist Temple since 1922, where she was a member of the Miriam Fellowship and the Crusader Class.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon Smith, in 1980; and her second husband, George Woehler, in 1991.

Mary is survived by a stepson, Dr. Thomas Woehler of Houston, Texas; 13 stepgrandchildren, one of which was her primary caretaker, Jerry Smith and his wife, Charmene, of Evansville; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2007, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor Kevin McKinney, burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
