John E. Huber, 87, of John was born on Oct. 3, 1919, to very loving parents Louise and William Huber. He attended Caze Elementary and He was a 60-year member of Union United Church of Christ and in later years a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ on Washington Avenue. John proudly worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier until he retired in 1975. He was a member and officer of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 377, and served as a delegate for state and national conventions for many years in which he would take his family along and show them the sights of the area. He was a member of the bowling league with the Letter Carriers for many years at Arc Lanes. When he retired he took a job fixing swimming pools for Master Remodelers and enjoyed working in his garden. John and Irma loved to travel by car, pulling a trailer and showing their children the great sights of this country every summer. John and Irma were members of the Good Sam Camping Club for many years. During the 70s and 80s, John and Irma ran the booth at the West Side Fall Festival for their church. They lived in John was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1114. He was a member of the local National Association Retired Federal Employees where he and his wife enjoyed going to the monthly meetings and luncheons. Nothing was more important to him then his wife, family, and church. He was a very gentle and good man. During the last few years, no matter his pain, he always had a ready smile and kind words for everyone. He loved having family and friends around. Children, whether they were his own, his grandbabies, nieces, nephews, or neighborhood kids were always welcome. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Duncan and her husband, Pat of Evansville and Judy Peters and her husband, He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Irma (Buttrum) Huber, in March 2005; a son, John Earl Huber, in 1975; a grandson, Peter Pat Duncan, in 1975; two brothers, Marvin and William Huber; and a sister, Elaine Edwards. A very special thanks goes out to Krista Weinzapfel. To Rosie, Michelle, Jamie, the girls in rehab, and all the staff too numerous to name at Angel River Health and Rehab. Debra, Shannon and Jessica, and the staff at Specialty Home Health. All the staff at Davita East/Dialysis Affiliates and the staff and drivers from Warrick County Council on Aging. All these people have made the last two years bearable for John and his family. We can't thank you enough. Dad really loved you all and appreciated everything you did for him. February 26, 2007 - I had 4 brothers and Johnny was always my favorite brother... not that I didn't love the others, too. Bud (O.J.) Huber ( February 26, 2007 - I've had 8 brothers-in-law and Johnny was always my favorite. We will miss him... Irene Huber ( February 26, 2007 - WE knew the Huber family for many years. In fact they were cousins to my wife Mary Ann. What a gentleman John was & to know him is to love him. I worked with John many years at the Post Office. He will be missed by many. Ralph Titus ( February 26, 2007 - Johnny was a special part of my childhood days. He was loved by all my family. My heart is with all his family. One thing I'll always remember about Aunt Irma and Uncle Johnny is all the family get togethers at their home, fun times, and the smell of popcorn on Sunday nights. He was loved and will be missed.
