Joseph Franklin 'Box Car' Johns

Joseph Franklin "Box Car" Johns, 67, of Evansville , Indiana , died at Deaconess Hospital , on Saturday, February 12, 2005 .

Joe was born in Evansville , Indiana , and attended Bosse High School Joe made his career in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant.

He served his country in the Vietnam War.  He was a member of American Legion Eugene Pate Post, Forty and Eight No. 271 and the VFW PostNo.  1114. He enjoyed NASCAR races and country music.

Joe is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Henry Weber; 2 grandsons, Joe Leslie and Jimmy Leslie; and brother, Bill Johns, all of Evansville , Ind. ; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Johns, in 2002, his brother, Ronnie Johns, and his baby sister, Janicejoann Johns.

Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 , at Browning Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.

Friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 , at Browning Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff of the ICU Unit No. 2900 at Deaconess Hospital for their loving care and attention to Joe and all his family during his illness.
