Charlene (Johnson) Williams


Charlene (Johnson) Williams, 52, of Evansville, departed this life Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Deaconess Hospital.

She was a [1972?] graduate of Benjamin Bosse High School. She was formerly employed with the University of Evansville for 10 years. Prior to her illness, she was employed as a loving phlebotomist, where she brought joy by singing to the sick and holding devotional services for Religious Life at Deaconess Hospital.

Charlene was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Thomas Johnson.

Charlene is survived by her mother, Ruby Lee Johnson; husband, Michael Williams; brothers, Herman Griffith (Patty) of Gary, Ind.; Charles Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif.; Barry Johnson (Fran) of Phoenix, Ariz.; Reuben Johnson, Angelo Johnson, and Bruce Johnson of Evansville; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thanks to the many dedicated caregivers, a precious friend, Michelle Sullivan; aunt, Gilda Slaughter; cousin, Tamara Wickware, and to the entire staff of holistic caregivers at Deaconess Hospice.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 1808 Fourth Ave., officiated by Reverend C.L. Baltzell with burial at Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander East Chapel.
