John E. Krug

John E. Krug, 80, formerly of Evansville and Newburgh, died Dec. 14, 2005, in Kendallville, Ind.

John was an engineer at Whirlpool where he was granted several patents, one of which was the refrigerator icemaker. He graduated from Bosse High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University in Terra Haute, Ind.

After working at Whirlpool, he returned to Indiana State University, where he served as Assistant Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, while working toward his Doctorate Degree.

During WWII, John served in the Navy. While in Evansville, he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and several civic organizations. When he moved to Newburgh, he became a member of the Town Council.

After his retirement, he pursued his interests in becoming a naturalist and historian for the area of Indiana around Kendallville, Ind. He worked as a docent at the Gene Stratton Porter Museum giving lectures and doing characterizations of Mr. Porter. He also portrayed David Rodgers at that historic site. John was known for his generosity and kindness to people in need.

He his survived by his sister Dora Louise Krug Rawlings of Evansville; nieces Laurel Hess of Evansville, Sharyl Dawes of Alpharetta Ga.; nephew Steven Hess of Louisville, Ky.; cousin Jane Krug Morgan of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Dorothy Krug Fox of Evansville.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gene Stratton Porter Memorial Society, INC. P.O. Box 639 Rome City, IN 46784.
