Stanton A. "Mack" McGill


Stanton A. "Mack" McGill passed from this world surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, July 28, 2007 [at age 93]. He was born November 16, 1913, in Clarendon, Ark. His siblings and mother died during his early years. Mack endured a trying childhood which bestowed in him, a wonderful blend of kindness, civility, humor, pride, and tenacity. Everyone's enduring memory of Mack will be as the consummate gentleman.

Mack lived much of his youth with his mother's family who owned and farmed what is now Angel Mounds. He graduated from Bosse High School [1931?] and later joined Chrysler Corporation as an unskilled worker in 1935. Mack's tenacity guided him in his 42 year career with Chrysler where he oversaw the development of Chrysler's St. Louis Truck and Van plant. He ended his career as General Superintendent of the plant and returned to Evansville to enjoy 30 years of rich and fulfilling retirement.

Mack was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte S.C. McGill; second wife, Charlotte Peyronnin McGill; and his grandson, Kevin Anderson.

He is survived by his cousin, Laura Gehlhausen of Evansville; son and daughter-in-law, Stanton A. and Jeanne McGill Jr. of Little Rock, Ark.; daughter, Pamela Zoe Anderson of Sarasota, Fla.; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Ward and Nell Peyronnin and Drew and Denise Peyronnin, all of Evansville; grandchildren, Shannon McGill of Little Rock, Ark.; Chris Turney of New York City; Addie Peyronnin of Bloomington, Ind., Louisa, Andrew, Benjamin, Henry and Leo Peyronnin, all of Evansville. Mack is also survived by two extraordinary caregivers, Novena Bonnel and Jeanette Goedde, who so enriched his final years.

The family extends their sincerest gratitude to Novena and Jeannete, along with the many compassionate staff members at Holiday Village, Hearthside and Holiday Hospice.

Friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Alexander North Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I am the eldest daughter of Novena Bonnell and I know how fond she is of Mack and the entire family. He will be very missed.
