James McPhee, 82, of Evansville, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2007, at Deaconess Hospital.
James graduated from Bosse High School [1942?], where he played football, basketball and ran track.
He was a veteran of World War II on the LST 915, where he received an American Area Ribbon, The Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and a Letter of Commendation from the commanding officer of the LST 915. He began a career with the railroad working as an engineer for C&I Railroad and later retired from CSX Railroad in 1985.
James was a member of the Odd Fellows and VFW Post 2953. He enjoyed fishing, horse racing, watching musicals, and John Wayne movies. He was an avid bowler for several years and loved woodworking and playing poker with his family.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Hamilton and Mable Lee, a brother, Robert McPhee, and a son, Michael W. Gorchinski.
James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patty McPhee of Evansville; a daughter, Penny Meyer and her husband, Steve, of Evansville; daughter-in-law, Judy Gorchinski of Sacramento, California; brother, Arthur "Bucky" McPhee and his wife, Joyce, of Evansville; sisters, Sharon Burklow and her husband, Burt, of Evansville, Sheila Feinge and her husband, George, of Indianapolis, Marcia Robinson of Evansville, and Toni Korock and her husband, Bik, of Port Orange, Florida; sister-in-law, Ruby Pribble of Newburgh, Indiana; grandchildren, Brandy Hodgson and her husband, Chris, Brock Meyer and his wife, Wendy, Bart Meyer and his wife, Melissa, and Blake Meyer, all of Evansville, Christy Gorchinski and Kevin Gorchinski, both of Sacramento, California, and Valerie Gorchinski of San Francisco, California; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Riley and Tate Hodgson, Evan Meyer and Clarissa Rogers; and nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 North First Avenue.
