Betty J. (Perkins) Fry


Betty J. (Perkins) Fry, 85, a Kokomo resident the past three years, formerly of Indianapolis, died at 8:18 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at her home. She was born Aug. 4, 1919, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Carter) Perkins. On May 23, 1943, in Evansville, she married Dr. Robert D. Fry, who preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1982.

Betty grew up in Evansville and was a graduate of Bosse High School and Bramwell's School of Business.

A longtime member of Meridian Hills Country Club, Betty enjoyed golf and bridge. She was active in planning golf events for the Indianapolis 500 Festival. She was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army and was a member of the Indianapolis Medical Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Victoria Benckenstein and her husband, George, of Kokomo, Pamela Shubert and her husband, Lee, of Columbia, Md.; three grandchildren, Victoria Blacklidge and her husband, Doug, of Kokomo, Tyler Shubert of New York City, Piper Lynch and her husband, Tim, of Helena, Mont.; two great-granddaughters, Makenna and Marcie Blacklidge of Kokomo; two grandsons by marriage, George Benckenstein and Walter Benckenstein and his wife Sherri, all of Florida; a great grandson by marriage, Geo Benckenstein; a sister, Aileen Bockstahler and her husband George of Indianapolis; two nieces, Sally Martin of Illinois, and Susan Rupp of Ohio.

In Kokomo, the family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley & Stout

Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road.

In Indianapolis, a memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday at Lepert Life Story Funeral Home, 740 E. 86th St., with Mark Malin of Oakbrook Community Church, Kokomo, officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Park North Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to VNS Howard Regional Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral homes.
