George H. Stockwell


George H. Stockwell Jr., an Evansville native born on June 25, 1917, has died.

He is survived by his four children, Cynthia, George, John and Dan; and 5 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

After graduating from Bosse High School [1935?], George served in the Army as a staff sergeant in Alaska, where he met his wife, Doreen, of 60 years. They settled back in Evansville where George worked as a Realtor to raise his family. His favorite hobbies included duplicate Bridge and Gin Rummy. George was well known for his ability to handicap at Ellis Park race track where he kept the same box seat for 50 years.

George was a gentle man with a great sense of humor.

The funeral will be held at Browning Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24th at noon with visitation from 10 a.m. until funeral time Saturday. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery.
