Arthur Paul Thompson


Arthur Paul Thompson, 74, of Evansville, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Arthur attended Bosse High School in Evansville. He retired from Steven's Floor Covering after 42 years of service and was a distinguished salesman throughout his career.

Following his retirement, Mr. Thompson devoted himself to the care of his wife DeElla of 56 years.

Arthur very much enjoyed woodworking and made several things for his family. He was also a sports fan, enjoyed shooting, and in years gone by, he and DeElla enjoyed bowling and roller skating together.

Arthur was born in Owensville, Ind., on January 9, 1932, to the late Orion P. and Nancy Thompson. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Katherine (Thompson) Mullen and Eva (Thompson) Hurt; one brother, David Thompson; two daughters, Gena Renee Thompson and Charlotte K. Buckner; and one grandson, Jeremy Saum.

He is survived by his wife, DeElla (Fortner) Thompson of Mount Carmel, Ill.; son, Tarrell E. Thompson and wife, Jean (Roberts) of Kokomo, Ind.; three daughters, Judith Sharp and husband, Garry, of Peru, Ind., Angela Armstrong and husband, Taylor, of Evansville and Greta Lemasters and husband, Jeffrey, of Petersburg, Ind.; brother, O. Tarrell Thompson of Princeton, Ind.; seventeen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2007, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Linda Parker, with burial at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at Alexander East Chapel.
