Mary Elizabeth (Traylor) Blackwell, of Evansville, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
She was born July 8, 1917, to Edgar and Irene (Ferris) Traylor in Jasper and, except for the first few months of infancy and the years during World War II, resided in Evansville. She graduated from Bosse High School (1935?) and was a 1939 graduate of Indiana University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She had worked for Traylor Bros. Inc., for more than 30 years, and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Mary was an avid golfer and reader.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Sarah Blackwell of Santa Claus; three grandchildren, Scott Blackwell of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Sarah Stirn of Cicero; and Anne Johnson of Greenwood; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Traylor of Evansville; sister, Irene Traylor Ritter of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Scott Blackwell, who was killed in 1944 while serving as a Navy pilot during World War II, and by brothers, William and Ferris Traylor.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evansville, officiated by Mgsr. Kenneth Knapp, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
